Hide’n’run is a puzzle/defense game created in 48 hours for the Ludum Dare #44 (theme: Your life is currency).  You basically have to trade your time (= your life) to be able to slow the enemies down and to win.

I didn’t have time to put any sound/music and to make better graphics than my initial programmer art, sorry about that :)

Instructions

The moving red things are enemies, they are looking for you and you will lose if one of them manages to touch you. Your goal is to slow them down by putting blocks/walls in the middle so that you can win. In order to win you need to buy a WIN which will require you to stay twenty seconds without moving.

There are various items that you can buy in exchange for some of your time (i.e. you will be unable to move for a specific duration while you are buying the item, but the enemies will still move towards you):

  • you can buy a (brown) block, it costs you only one seconds and slows the enemies down a little if you put it in their way (as they have to destroy it in order to pass)
  • you can buy a (grey) wall, it costs ten seconds and slows the enemies down much more (unless they manage to simply go around, they are not that stupid)
  • finally you can buy WIN, it costs twenty seconds, but if the enemies don’t reach you during that time, you win the level.

The weird white circles that appear sometimes are timers, to show you the progress of your buying and the progress of the enemies drilling the walls to get you.

Controls

  • Arrow keys to move.
  • Shift + arrow key to place a block in a specific direction.
  • Space to buy a block/win.
  • Tab key to select which type of block you want to place, or what you want to buy (both Shift + arrow and Space refer to the type of block/win selected by Tab).
  • Escape key to pause/abort the level.
